So a couple of years ago when Martin Rokeach and I casually talked about how wonderful it would be for him to write me a concerto and for me to perform his concerto, I had no idea it would set that exact scenario into motion. This past March 18,2016, I had the privilege and pleasure of premiering Martin Rokeach’s Concerto for Piccolo and Orchestra. I am so grateful to Michael Morgan for the opportunity to premiere the work with my wonderful colleagues in the Oakland Symphony. I was heartened and gratified by the wonderful reviews we got as well. While my goal was to enjoy myself sharing this music with the Oakland Symphony audience, it was admittedly nice to get the accolades in print.
Here is the Joshua Kosman review from the San Francisco Chronicle.
Here is the Georgia Rowe review from the Bay Area Newsgroup.
I was also grateful for the publicity teaser that Omid Zoufounoun put together leading up to the premiere of the concerto.
I also enjoyed being interviewed on March 17, 2016 by Jeffrey Freymann on KDFC’s State of the Arts.
